Abstract:

Hippocrates stated “let food be thy medicine, thy medicine shall be thy food”. Our skin reflects our internal health, whatever we consume determines our skin appearance and vitality. Our diet plays an important role in the maintenance of health skin which provides the building block necessary for skin structure, function and resilience. Macronutrients such as carbohydrates, proteins and lipids and Micronutrients such as vitamins and minerals work together to maintain the barrier of the skin. Poor diet however, doesn’t offer anti –oxidant protection which could lead to increase inflammation, dehydration and premature aging of skin and even more serious skin problems such as ACNE, ECZEMA and PSORIASIS, which are inflammatory diseases. With the advance medical and aesthetic procedures and management present nowadays patients frequently inquire about the impact of dietary patterns on skin health when they consult their dermatologist and primary care physicians. The goal of this review is to contribute and recommend dietary adjustment or target supplement to support a health complexion from the inside out.
