Assuta Ashdod public Hospital, Israel
One of the challenges the health system in the whole world faces is the aging of the population. In the state of Israel as of 2021 twelve percent of the population are eldery and the number is expected to increase. The number of people with dementia is estimated at 120,000-200,000. For these people hospitalization is a difficulty-first of all a departure from the routine, memory impairment, orientation and the disease itself that caused the hospitalization. It is important that the caring team members provide an appropriate response to the emotional, functional and medical condition of the patient as well as an appropriate response to the patient's primary caregivers.
In our hospital, we have developed a treatment plan for patients hospitalized with dementia, such as: pain balance, prevention of pressure ulcers, preservation pf abilities, appropriate communication, therapeutic sequence and up to supportive care for patients with advanced dementia. The staff undergoes training that imparts knowledge on various topics and skills, rights and services in the community.
The leading values in treating people with dementia
